I’m excited to announce the following woodworking workshops I’ll be leading at my workspace in downtown LA (407 East Pico Blvd., Suite 1004-1006, Los Angeles, CA 90015):

Introduction to Tool Sharpening

Posted 08/1/14

Wednesday, 9/17, 6:00-9:00 pm

$75 (no cost for students enrolled in Joinery I and/or Joinery II)

In this 3-hour long workshop, I will show participants how to sharpen and maintain edge tools, such as chisels and hand planes. Using both bench grinders and oil and water stones, participants will achieve the kind of tool edges required to make successful pieces of handmade furniture. This class is a prerequisite and included in the tuition fees for both Joinery I and Joinery II. However, this class is available to all other students.

Note: make sure you bring your own chisels, hand planes, and any other edge tools you wish to sharpen.

Saturday, 10/4 and Sunday, 10/5, 9:00 am-4:00 pm

$500 (includes materials, but students required to bring select hand tools–email me for tool list)

In this two-day workshop, I will guide participants through the process of making a wedged tenoned Arts and Crafts bench. Particular emphasis will be given to the precise use of hand tools and the importance of laying out joinery. Before building the bench, participants will practice a variety of mortise and tenon joints that will be applicable not only to the bench, but also to future furniture projects. Enrollment fee includes cost of materials, but there is a short list of tools required for the class.

Note: Introduction to Tool Sharpening required in advance of this class. It will be offered at no cost to students enrolled in either Joinery I and/or Joinery II.
